P&O Ferries resumes freight services Dover - Zeebrugge
Zeebrugge,
Wednesday,
3/24/2010.
A new daily freight service is to commence between Dover and Zeebrugge on 7 April, 2010. P&O Ferries is responding to demand from its freight customers for the new service which will operate one round trip per 24 hours between the two ports.
The company will utilise its dedicated freighter European Endeavour on the route, with a capacity for up to 100 articulated lorries. At other times, the ship will be available to carry Dover – Calais freight as required.
Ronny Daelman, freight director, said: “We are building a very strong freight hub in Zeebrugge with existing routes to Hull, Teesport and Tilbury. Our customers tell us that they now want a direct service to Dover from the Belgian port and we are responding accordingly.”
P&O Ferries last operated a service between Dover and Zeebrugge in 2002 with three freight ships but closed the route at the end of that year when changing market conditions led to a drop in demand. “Everything changes and we now believe the market has come back but the ball is very much in our customers’ court. We will provide the ship so long as there is profitable demand,” says Ronny Daelman.(FRN)
