Port increases volume by 21% over first half of 2010

During the first six months of 2010, the overall traffic of goods through the port of Zeebrugge increased by a full 21 % to a volume of 24,8 million metric tons. The port of Zeebrugge has clearly left the crisis behind it and is back on track to reach now record highs next year.
Roll-on/roll-off-traffic stays on the recovery track resulting in a volume of 6,1 million ton, an increase by 44,1 % compared to the first six months of 2009. 781.709 new cars passed thriugh the port: 30 % more which still means a 30 % decrease compared to the record numbers from 2007, but port authority president Joachim Coens sees a further increase later this year.
The container traffic grew to 13,7 million ton: a teu increase by 21,8 % to a staggering 1.252.241 units.
Bulk goods on the other hand went against the trend on a downwards path. Liquid Bulk even by 11,1 % to 3,6 million ton: the European LNG imports are lingering.(FRN)
